Cinematic portrait of Cynthia Straus.

Cynthia’s passion for acting began at age 9 working with Chicago children’s theatre troup, Lilliput II. Among her many roles, she delivered a tour de force performance at just 12 years old as child Holocaust survivor Raja Englanderova in I Never Saw Another Butterfly. Holocaust survivors in the audience were found weeping outside the theater after the show.

“This was the first moment I understood the power of theatre—how storytelling could profoundly move people. From that moment on, I knew acting was my life’s calling.”- Cynthia

Critics have said of her performances, “The subtlety of her work belies the depth of her process”, and, “First rate acting…will remind you of the power of theatre.”

“Cynthia has trained with such esteemed teachers as Larry Moss, Ernie Martin, Patsy Rodenburg, and at The Neighborhood Playhouse.”

“The scintillating Bernhardt of Wendy Morgan is contrasted by the intensity of Cynthia Straus as Duse”

Cynthia Straus, as Duse, is more enigmatic, quieter… She demands little other than her white roses. Without formal training, Duse’s acting feels natural and intimate.

… explore the parallels in Bernhardt’s and Duse’s private and public lives and their irreconcilable differences … Sometimes rivals, sometimes sister artists united by their ambition and success. There are lovely moments … The performances are strong … Its a charming piece.
